“Objet trouvé” is French for “found object” and synonymous with the practice of re-purposing an item in an artistic way. The found artist – in this case, HANDMADE GARDEN’S owner, Michael Petrie – has the ability to see the inherent beauty in what is often an outdated utilitarian object, while simultaneously re-seeing and then re-using that object in a new and visually startling way.
Michael Petrie uses found objects to create useful garden art. Thus an old glass doorknob welded to a pipe becomes a hose guard protecting a flower bed, rusty trowels give new life to an abandoned garden gate, and bedsprings intertwine with vines.
